Jackie Nguyen has been battling with depression for many years now, but just recently this emotional illness, along with harbouring a great deal of stress, has caused this young musical theatre actress to lose her hair.

The Diagnosis: Alopecia Areata
Alopecia areata is a hair loss condition that can often be triggered by stress or emotional trauma. Alopecia areata causes the hair to fall out in small clumps, leaving smooth, round bald patches on the scalp and can later progress to total hair loss. For Jackie, whose brother passed away when she was 19, as well as her stressful job as an actress in New York City, Jackie was definitely susceptible to this hair loss condition, particularly due to her ongoing battle with depression.
Sharing Her Story
Last month Jackie, a regular contributor to the popular site Huffington Post, took to social media and bravely shared about alopecia areata and her hair loss. In two weeks Jackie;s hair loss had extended to 75 per cent of her hair. Not knowing what the next week might hold, Jackie went out and bought a wig; yet has embraced this unexpected chapter of her life. She has used this as an opportunity to shed light on depression as well as alopecia areata; stating that “Maybe someone, somewhere can relate and see that you’re not alone.”
