1. Julianna Margulies, The Good Wife
Gone are the days of the curly-haired nurse Carol on ER, with Julianna Margulies hitting the screen as sleek-haired attorney Alicia Florrick on The Good Wife with the help of a straight brown wig.
2. Sherri Shepherd, The View
It’s no secret to her viewers that morning talk show host Sherri Shepherd wears a wig. Shepherd recently created a high fashion wig collection, “Luxhair Now by Sherri Shepherd.’ So proud that’s she’s designed a line of wigs, Shepherd finds it hard to keep quiet about it!
3. Ashley Benson, Pretty Little Liars
Originally a blonde when she started the show, Ashley Benson then decided to go brunette. This means in the most recent episodes, which aired this summer, Benson is wearing a blonde wig – a detail that most viewers were not able to pick up on!
4. Gretchen Mol, Boardwalk Empire
In the 1920’s prohibition drama – Boardwalk Empire, Gretchen Mol wears a wig in her role as Gillian Darmody. There’s nothing wrong with her own hair, it’s just sometimes easier to style a wig rather than an actor’s own hair.
5. Tom Mison, Sleepy Hollow
When British actor Tom Mison got the role of Ichabod Crane on Fox’s new hit drama Sleepy Hollow, his hair was too short for a character who was a soldier in the Revolutionary War. So Mison had to wear a wig in order to create the authentic look. “I used to have long hair and I looked ridiculous. This wig is much better than my real hair’ Says Mison.
6. Wendy Williams, The Wendy Williams Show
Similarly to Sherri Shepherd, talk show host Wendy Williams had created her own custom wigs line. “I started wearing wigs about 15 years ago,” Williams told The Huffington Post. “I have one for the gym, one for around the pool.” However she says she wears her natural around the house.
7. Maggie Smith, Downton Abbey
British actress Dame Maggie Smith’s grand upsweep hairstyle which appears on Downton Abbey is a wig. This was to ensure an authentic look for what was customary for women of the time. Her acres of hair is in keeping with the aristocratic station of the Dowager Countess of Grantham.
8. Emilia Clarke, Game of Thrones
Emilia Clarkes character Daenerys on Game of Thrones is seen with an impressive mane of blonde curls. In real life she looks like a different person when sporting her natural dark hair.
9. Megan Boone, The Blacklist
In real life Megan Boone has a very short, chic haircut. However when starring as FBI agent Elizabeth Keen on The Blacklist, Boone wears a shoulder length wig. This gives her a much more ‘down to business’ appearance when alongside a team of tough FBI guys.
