Dihydrotestosterone (DHT) is the hormone directly responsible for male pattern hair baldness. DHT formed by the male hormone, testosterone, binds with an enzyme named alpha five reductase. Men experiencing male pattern hair loss will either have an abundance of this enzyme in the hair follicles in the frontal scalp, or they may have more sensitive follicles than their counterparts with a full head of hair, thus making them more susceptible to thinning hair. Can also trigger hair loss and cause thinning hair. Stress related hair loss might be reversed by elimination of stress factors. Furthermore, stress can increase the speed of hair loss in people who have a genetic predisposition to thinning hair and male or female pattern baldness. Severe stress, such as the loss of a loved one, severe illness or major surgery, may also lead to hair loss. Some illnesses may lead to thinning hair, such as thyroid disease (overactive or under active thyroid gland), ringworm, syphilis, and even high fever. Usually hair regrowth will take place after terminating the medical treatment or overcoming the illness. Such as crash dieting or insufficient protein in a person’s diet is another cause of thinning hair. Iron deficiency may also occur and cause thinning hair. The body’s protective mechanism will save internal protein by shifting hair into the resting phase. Hair loss will occur two to three months later. Usually new hair growth will be seen again if the person goes back to a healthy diet with adequate amounts of protein.
